Back in 1995 I was hired as a contract programmer to maintain the source code for a software system. I signed a contract which has a proprietary Rights clause in it.

Three years later I began developing a new system, a windows version of the old system, for this same contractor. I'd like to know if I have intellectual rights to the new one I wrote. I'd like to start my own business and utilize the code. I did not sign a new contract for this new system.
